Trick or Treat!

Nicholas was his favorite superhero for Halloween, a fireman!  I crafted a fire truck out of a cardboard box which he gladly wore (and even added his own siren for effect!).  In the morning, we went trick or treating on Chestnut Street, where the local merchants line the sidewalks with bowls of candy and hundreds of toddlers march along gathering their goodies.  While the morning activity was certainly enough to fulfill any Halloween needs of a 2 year old, I wanted Nicholas to get the nighttime experience too.  So we went to nearby Sea Cliff and went to a dozen or so houses....most of which were on hills and had quite a few stairs, which is hard enough for a little kid, let alone one wearing a box!

Nicholas had the opportunity to show some real fireman his costume and he got scared!

My forever friend Sarah recently "graduated" by completing her residency in Pediatrics!  BIG accomplishment!  She is now on to a fellowship at New York Methodist Hospital and I know that she is going to be the coolest fella there!  I am very proud of Sarah and also of this card I made her :)

I was lucky that my mom doesn't want to store my stuff in their garage I had a couple of my high school yearbooks on hand in order to create the envelope liner.  Yup, that's Sarah circa 1997, smack in the middle!

My dear friend Catherine and her family recently moved (back) to New Jersey, so I made her this little housewarming card.

We had a really nice father's day today.  We had brunch at Foreign Cinema in the Mission and Nicholas had napped in the car on the way there so it was semi-relaxing for mom & dad.  It was so delicious.  Nicholas' had the three course kid's meal:  fresh berry medley, grilled cheese and fries, and two scoops of ice cream!  Afterwards, we were able to grocery shop and play in the afternoon and just enjoy the beautiful SF day!  

Below are some shots of the card that Nicholas and I made.  I got (uh, copied) the idea from this pin.  Those are Nicholas' little hands!   

a graduation card

I made this card for Cristina's (Nicholas' nanny's) daughter, who is graduating from high school this weekend.  I actually created something similar for Leah's grad (featuring pink, since our present theme was "Legally Blonde"), but figured out a couple cool things this time around...    

I colored in the cap with a Souffle pen first, and then filled it in with Martha Stewart's Glitter Flocking Powder in a very similar color.  It created a nice 3D effect!  I  learned that those flocking powders have the most impact when using on a similarly colored surface.  Then a little dot of glitter glue and voila!

I am so not a fan of my handwriting, so I traced the words on the inside of the card directly from the computer screen.  I actually first used a Martha Stewart glitter pen, but then I decided to emboss a few stars on each side of the wording.  In the process, I ended up inadvertently embossing over the glitter pen but really liked how it came out.

Nicholas was also feeling crafty today with his new markers....

Go Blue!

This used to be a white frame.  But, with fairly little effort and a couple of vendibles from Martha Stewart Crafts (glitter) and Plaid Enterprises, Inc. (Mod Podge), it isn't white any more.  Sweet smiling baby + over-the-top sparkle = happiness.  I think the nurses will like it too.

Since I've decided on paper crafting as my recovery-time hobby, I've been spending quite a bit of time in Michael's lately getting stocked up on supplies.  I got inspired when I was there today to do a little something now for Nicholas' big day, which I anticipate I'll be in the hospital for.
